The Spring Member Congress: A Summit of Industry Leaders
The IAEWS Spring Member Congress was held on March 15th in San Diego, California. More than 75 Member company CEOs and senior executives gathered for a free-wheeling discussion of the key issues and opportunities facing our industry. As always, the dialogue was frank, the questions were probing, and the commentary was on point and insightful.
The event was kicked off with a forum on the dot.jobs initiative at the DirectEmployers Association (DEA). DEA Vice President Chad Sowash and two representatives of DEA member companies were peppered with questions and feedback from the audience. From DEA’s perspective, competition is good for the industry, and what they are doing is providing a new and competitive recruitment solution that will benefit its members. Other IAEWS Members in the audience, however, expressed skepticism about the authority of DEA’s partner—Employ Media—to launch such an expansion of the TLD and the impact it would have on both the industry and the human resource community.
Following the dot.jobs forum and a break for lunch, delegates were treated to a provocative Keynote by Kevin Wheeler, the founder of The Future of Talent Institute, and to informative presentations by Terry Baker, Chief Revenue Officer at Adicio; Lee Marc, the CEO of eDirect Publishing; and John Bell, the Chairman of Boxwood. In addition, Matt Hoffner, the CEO of JobG8 U.S., herded the cats during our Member Round Robin, while Ted Daywalt, the CEO of VetJobs, and Sara Fell, the CEO of FlexJobs.com, kept the discussions focused and productive. And, overseeing the entire event was our Chairperson, Constance Melrose, the MD of eFinancialCareers.com, a Dice Holdings company.
The PowerPoints used by the presenters have now been posted in the Members Only area of the IAEWS Web-site. The link to the video recordings of the sessions is also now posted in that area so you can experience the Congress just as if you were there.
Finally, once again, we thank our sponsors for the Congress: our Gold Sponsors—ERE and Arbita; our Silver Sponsors—TopUSAJobs and Adicio; our Keynote Sponsor—JobTarget OneClick; our Lanyard Sponsor—VetJobs; and our Video Sponsor—Boxwood. Thanks also to eDirect Publishing for its help in staffing our Registration Desk.

Promote Your Brand
The most successful organizations are those with strong brands among two separate but equally important constituencies:
• their peers
and
• their customers.
The IAEWS is pleased to offer its Members low-cost ways to do both.
Branding With Your Peers. One of the best ways to build brand among your organization’s industry peers is to sponsor the IAEWS newsletter. Just as you are doing right now, thought leaders in our field read this publication regularly. And when they do, your organization will be prominently visible to them. Sponsorship rates are low and provide a button ad that can be linked to your organization’s Web-site.
Branding With Your Customers. One of the most popular blogs in the employment space is written by IAEWS Executive Director, Peter Weddle. Called Work Strong, it examines the employment space from both the job seeker’s and recruiter’s point of view. As a result, it is read regularly by both individuals in both communities. As with the IAEWS newsletter, sponsorships are very inexpensive and provide a button ad that can be linked to your organization’s site.
For more information about these opportunities, please contact Peter Weddle at 203.964.1888 or director@employmentwebsites.org.
