Time to Be Heard

As reported by John Zappe on ERE, SHRM has opened the public comment period for the proposed expansion of the dot.jobs TLD.

This proposal would expand the prerogative of the charter holder, Employ Media, and allow it to flood the market with “millions” of geocentric and occupation specific sites.  (For additional information on this issue, please see past editions of the IAEWS Member newsletter which are archived in the Members Only area of the Association’s site.)

If you have an opinion on the proposal, now is the time to express it.  And, if you know of others who have an opinion, make sure that they know about this opportunity to have their say.  You might, for example, tell your customers—those employers with which you work—about the plan.  Basically, it would create so much clutter in the marketplace that job seekers would likely find it all but impossible to locate their job postings.

Comments may be posted at http://shrm.wufoo.com/forms/jobs-public-comment-page.  Also be advised that while such public commentary is typically not conducted anonymously, SHRM has decided that, in this case, it will not reveal the authorship of comments on the site.

Fall Member Congress

The Fall Member Congress will be held on October 26, 2010 (NOT October 25th as previously reported) in Hollywood, FL.  It immediately precedes the ERE Fall Expo, so you have a great opportunity to attend two outstanding events in one trip.

ERE has just announced the availability of discounted rooms at the conference hotel, The Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa.  Rooms are being offered at $289 per night, plus tax.

Given the popularity of these two events, the block of discounted rooms is likely to go fast, so make your reservations now.  You can reach the hotel at 888.627.9057.  Identify yourself as an attendee at the ERE 2010 Fall Expo.

And, while you’re at it, register for the Fall Member Congress.  The online registration portal can be found here: https://www.jobtarget.com/site/1765/register.cfm.  We thank IAEWS Member JobTarget OneClick for developing the online registration functionality.  If you have any questions, please call Peter Weddle at 203.964.1888.

Nominations for Top 100

As many of you know, WEDDLE’s publishes a biannual guide to the online employment industry.  Called the “Zagat of online employment” by the American Staffing Association, it is found in virtually every academic and public library in the U.S. and Canada and sold on Amazon.com and in the world’s leading bookstores.

WEDDLE’s is now preparing for its next edition, which will hit bookstore shelves in early 2011.  This tenth anniversary edition will feature the Top 100, the editors’ pick of the best employment sites on the Internet.  If you would like your site or sites to be considered for this special recognition, please email Peter Weddle for a nomination form.

Each site in the Top 100 is given full page, feature coverage in the Guide and recognized with a special icon that can be displayed online and in print collateral.
