CareerCast.com/JobSerf Employment Index Shows Slight Rise in Managerial Hiring

Miami, Cleveland, Boston and Louisville Lead Job Growth

CARLSBAD, CA/RICHARDSON, TX (June 29, 2010) – The CareerCast.com/JobSerf Employment Index released today, which measures managerial hiring activity online, showed minor improvement, rising from 89 in May to 92.6 in June.

Nearly all of the cities tracked by the Index had an increase in hiring this month, led by Miami (+13%), Cleveland (+12%), Boston (+11%) and Louisville (+11%). Minneapolis, Phoenix, Cincinnati, and Memphis all showed a 10% improvement over last month. St. Louis was the only city to show no improvement in June.

Boston (up 15 to 146) has begun to close the gap in per capita hiring with market leader Washington,D.C. (up 4 to 176), and third place San Francisco (up 6 to 112) also continues its impressive rise.

“We are pleased that most of the country has risen to pre-recession hiring levels, with the exception of the western part of the U.S., as San Diego, Los Angeles and Riverside, Calif., continue to struggle this month,” says Tony Lee, publisher, www.CareerCast.com. “Fortunately, hiring levels nationally are more than 30 points above the June 2009 Index.”

”The rise in managerial hiring has not had an impact on the high unemployment rate,” says Jay Martin, COO, JobSerf. “However, we remain optimistic that hiring will remain strong or improve over the summer, even though this is typically a weak managerial hiring period.”

The CareerCast.com/JobSerf Employment Index is an exclusive barometer showing managerial hiring activity based on the number of jobs posted online nationally. The Index reveals the differences in job listings by month, and offers valuable trends and forecasts using proprietary employment data hand-counted by a team of researchers.
