2010 Member Congresses Announced

This year, the IAEWS will hold two conferences for its Members:

• The Spring Member Congress will be held on March 15, 2010 in San Diego, CA.

• The Fall Member Congress will be held on October 25, 2010 in Hollywood, FL.

Both events will immediately precede ERE Conferences and be held in the same venues.

The agenda for the Spring Member Congress will be announced shortly.  As always, however, it will include networking opportunities, industry-specific presentations, a Member Round Robin and an evening Cocktail Reception.  It’s a unique opportunity to stay on top of key issues and trends, meet your peers and collect competitive information.

Registration is just $245 per delegate.  And, if you register for both Congresses before March 14, 2010, you save $50.

Once again, JobTarget One Click is powering our online registration portal, for which we are very grateful.  So, come on … it’s less than six weeks until the event.  Register right now!  Call 203.964.1888 or use the registration portal which will open on Monday, January 25, 2010.

2010 Board of Governors Election

The final day to cast your organization’s ballot for the Association’s 2010 Board of Governors is tomorrow, January 22, 2010.

The ballots were mailed in December to each Member’s designated point of contact.  If you’ve misplaced your organization’s ballot or it’s been lost in transit, please contact Peter Weddle immediately for a replacement.  Ballots may be emailed to director@employmentwebsites.org.

What Accompanied the Ballots?

Accompanying the Board of Governors ballot was your organization’s dues statement for 2010.  The Association works all year long on your behalf—as you can see above, we’re already working on the 2010 Congresses—so please, pay your dues as soon as you can.  And for those who have already made their payment, please accept our thanks.

Your IAEWS Member Benefits

Your Membership Logo Means Something

One of the key benefits you receive as an IAEWS Member is the opportunity to display the Association’s Member icon on your site and in your promotional literature.  Both the media and our customers in HR and among job seekers increasingly recognize the icon and regard it as the “Good Housekeeping seal of approval” when shopping for a job board.  So, make sure your site gets the distinction it deserves.  Post the IAEWS logo today.

Take Advantage of the Members Only Area on the IAEWS Site

The IAEWS site offers an array of information and resources for Association Members.  Click on the Members Only tab, enter your Member ID and password, and you’ll find:
• The Official IAEWS Member icon.  Posting this icon on your site helps to reinforce the quality of your brand and differentiate your site from the riffraff on the Web;
• The Member Newsletter.  An archive of the current and past IAEWS newsletters so you can stay abreast of the latest news in our industry and the Association;
• Content from Member Meetings & Congresses.  Even if you’re not able to attend these events, this area will give you access to their content;
• Quarterly Research Findings.  Tap into data and analysis from WEDDLE’s and the archive of the Association’s Research InSites publication;
• Industry News.  Keep an eye on the competition and look for business opportunities by checking out the press releases posted by Association Members;
• Enterprises for Sale.  If you’re in the market for an enterprise or want to sell your own, here’s one place to do so that’s a bit more discreet than other public forums.
• Employees in Transition.  Post the resumes of those in your organization who have been affected by staff reductions and help them land on their feet.
• Post Your Own Releases.  An easy way to send your press release to the IAEWS for posting on its site, which is one of the first places journalists check when writing about our industry; and
• Member Discussion Area.  Join an ongoing conversation among your peers or start your own.

Remember Your Member Working Groups

This is just a reminder that the IAEWS currently supports three Member Working Groups.  They are:
• The Working Group on Customer Privacy & Security, chaired by Carl Braun, Cross-Post.  This group is exploring possible defenses against hacking, malware and other attacks that disrupt business operations and/or threaten customer identity and privacy.
• The Working Group on the OFCCP, co-chaired by Ted Daywalt, VetJobs, and Hope Gurion, CareerBuilder.com.  This group is working with the Department of Labor and the U.S. Congress (through the American Society of Association Executives) to redress the onerous data collection and storage requirements promulgated by this agency for online resume database searching.
• The Working Group on Sourcing Problems with Applicant Tracking Systems, chaired by Jason Whitman, Indeed.  This group is dealing with the inaccurate identification of candidate sources provided by the vast majority of today’s applicant tracking systems, a situation that undermines customer confidence in our industry and misdirects customer investments in recruiting.

These groups look for strategies and initiatives that leverage the collective strength of the Association and its membership.  They are open to all Members and meet (usually by teleconference) at the discretion of the participants and the group’s chair.  If you would like more information about any of the groups or would like to join one, please contact the appropriate chairperson.  Contact information is in your Member Directory.

Free Visibility for Your Press Releases and White Papers

Please don’t forget that IAEWS Members can have their press announcements, research reports and white papers posted on the IAEWS site.

Why bother?  Because the IAEWS site (and its Press page, in particular) is now the first stop for journalists writing about our industry or looking for employment-related topics about which to write.

How does it work?  Simply send your press announcement, white paper summary or extract to Peter Weddle (director@employmentwebsites.org) and he’ll see that it’s posted.  (To aid in administration, please send Word documents only.)

Are You Prepared for the Rise of M&A Activity in Our Industry?

Cashing Out or Cashing In—The Financial Dynamics of M&A Activity in the Online Employment Services Industry is the first-ever research report on this important topic.  Commissioned by the International Association of Employment Web Sites and conducted by Kennedy Information, it looks at everything from valuation formulas to non-compete clauses, from deal breakers to how good will is measured in mergers and acquisitions involving employment Web-sites.

The study surveyed IAEWS Members to collect qualitative data and interviewed principals with venture capital, investment banking and other firms to obtain quantitative data from actual deals.  The result is a ground-breaking look at what firms are buying, what firms are selling, and what terms are being negotiated in our industry—one of the most successful in the e-commerce space.

This report is available to Members of the International Association of Employment Web Sites at a special $200 discount.  Its cost is $395.00, plus shipping.  All orders are shipped by U.S. Priority Mail or Air Mail.

To get your copy, please call the IAEWS Executive Director, Peter Weddle, at 203.964.1888.
